Playoff bound?
2010-03-10 kl 08:12With 2 decisive victories after the Olympic break, MODO was on their way to ubtain the final play-off spot. Now with only 2 points in their last 2 matches MODO is on the outside looking in and fate is not in their own hands going into the last 2 games of the regular season.
After stomping Färjestad 10-3 MODO went on to lose to Timrå 5-4 before out classing Linköping 8-0. Everyone thought they would be the team to beat after picking up the 8th and final play-off spot. Now that might be in jeopordy with MODO only picking up 3 points in their last 2 games sliding them back to 9th with only 2 regular season games left.

Timrå, on the other hand, has picked up ground by taking 12 of 15 points since the Olympic break and now has 71 points (same as MODO) trailing Luleå by only one going in to the last two games. Timrå faces off with Luleå in the final day, so that match could potentially decide the last play-off spot. MODO's fate is in the hands of Luleå and Timrå. They just need to win their final 2 and hope for the best.
Luleå holds the 8th spot despite only winning twice since the break. Their latest 3-0 over Södertälje secured the last spot and put their destiny in their own hands.

Frölunda is in seventh with 75 points, but they are still not safe. 3 points in their final 2 assures them of a play-off spot. Number 6 Brynäs can rest easy with knowledge that they are guaranteed a spot with their 79 points, the only question for them is where will the end up, 6th or 7th?
Number 5 Färjestad can not plummet to 6th but they have a chance to reach third depending on the out come in the final 2 matches.
Where it really gets interessting is places 1-4. All four of those teams can end the season at the top. HV 71 leads everyone with 92 points but has been struggling as of late. They have only one victory (5-3 over Luleå), 2 overtime losses and 2 regulation losses since the break. They end the sesaon with home game against Färjestad and then on the road against number 2 LHC.

Linköping has also struggled a bit as of late. They have only picked up 4 of 15 points themselves since the break. They have hung on to second place but number three Djurgården is only 3 points behind with 88. DIF has quietly closed the gap on LHC and HV 71 by picking up 8 points since the Olympics. With Linköping and HV struggling to win, DIF has first place in their sights.
Skellefteå in fourth with 87 has an outside chance of winning the league as well. They close out the season against Frölunda and Brynäs. But, since HV and LHC meet on the final day, SAIK probably could only get as high as 2nd.
It's already decided that Rögle and Södertälje will compete in the Kvalserien to try and regain their Elitserien places.
